April 1-30  Switch & Save!  with CFLs at Austin Utilities.  Check your April Austin Utilities Newsletter for a coupon for a free Compact Fluorescent Light bulb.  Then walk, bike, carpool or ride the bus to Austin Utilities to obtain a free CFL bulb.  The utility also collects spent CFLs for recycling.   (Must be an Austin Utilities residential customer to participate.)

 

April 15     Wild Game Feed  Austin Chapter 10 of the Izaak Walton League will be holding its annual Wild Game Feed with appetizers followed by a dinner of wild game.  Funds raised go towards conservation projects and environmental education of area youth.  Tickets cost $20.  For tickets, contact Al Layman at 437-1297.  Izaak Walton Cabin, Todd Park at 5:30pm.

         

April 21     Alaska’s Global Climate Change  The Audubon Society invites you to see firsthand the changes that are occurring in Alaska due to climate.  J. C. Hormel Nature Center at 7:00 pm.

 

April 22     Earth Day – A.C.E.S. Spring Gala Luncheon   Cool & Green Silent Action at 11:30am, Luncheon 12:00pm.  AHS Going Green Club pansies on sale.  Special appearance by Earthman.  Down Home fiddling.  Tickets $10.  Reserve tickets by calling Dorothy Owens 437-2251.  J. C. Hormel Nature Center at 11:30am to 1:30pm. 

 

Green Living Workshop – A panel of experts will discuss:  solar power, how to complete a “Do It Yourself” energy audit, energy savings opportunities in the home, ways to lighten your carbon footprint and Sustainable Neighborhood Networks.  (Each participant will receive an energy savings kit valued at $15.)  Cost $10.  Call 433-0971 or 433-0928 to register.  Room #306, Austin Utilities Municipal Building at 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

 

April 23     Clean Cars Forum  Sponsored by the Minnesota Environmental Partnership and Audubon Society.  Learn from former Senator Dean Johnson about the Clean Car Act and how it will decrease air pollution, save money on fuel, and reduce global warming pollution.  J. C. Hormel Nature Center at 7:00pm.

April 25     City of Austin Spring Clean Up Day  Call Park and Recreation to volunteer at 433-1881.  Meet at pool parking lot, N. Main Street, at 9:00 am-12:00 pm for clean up and recycling.
