It’s not in the Bag!

The US Postal Service has long brought a ray of sunshine into the isolated lives of Peace Corps Volunteers everywhere.  Those care packages from home are always a bright spot during those gloomy Ukrainian winters.

In the past, the US Postal Media Mail service (M-Bags) allowed thrifty PCVs worldwide  to obtain books, sheet music and other print media for a mere $1 a pound.  Returned Peace Corps Volunteers often continue to use Media Mail to help people and organizations back in their country of service.

Those days seem to be over.  Last Spring Media Mail rates jumped to over $4 a pound.

As a result of this significant jump, many PCVs and PRCVs have banded together to form a coalition who propose to bring back a reasonable Media Mail service for non-profits and organizations like Peace Corps.

The battle is not over and it looks as though a new sBook on a Bookshelfervice will be introduced in 2008.
