Where are You Now? – We Want to Hear from YOU!
A few RPCVs responded to the call earlier this spring:
where are you now? We encourage you to submit a post and let others know
what you are up to, where you are and what Third Goal activities you might be
involved with. What’s your life like post-Peace Corps?
Members – you can read more about what your RPCV buddies are up to if you visit the FofU social-networking circle ( http://ukraina.ning.com ). While you are there, take a few moments to update your own story!
Group 28 – Where are You Now?
I am currently in my second semester of law School at Catholic University in DC. Right now, even though I am supposedly on spring break, I am studying and preparing my notes for finals (which are still about 2 months away). To entertain myself, I play in a flag football league every Saturday morning down on the national mall. I enjoy meeting up with fellow PCV's but rarely ever get out of the library... sometimes when I get distracted daydreaming, I think of carrying jugs of water back from the well or chopping wood behind my house, oh how I remember those days fondly... I do get to speak Russian from time to time, there is a group of babas that live in the nursing home behind my building and they are always outside on the bench or strolling around the block. We talk about the weather and recipes and the flu... all the hot topics of conversation back in Ukraine. I hope my fellow 28ers are happy and healthy.
I am in Dallas. Executive Director of Dallas Chamber Music. Just got engaged to Bill Peterson who is on the faculty at the medical school and is a lovely man. Am organizing a benefit concert in Dallas on May 3 for my rehabilitation center in Ukraine. My host sister in Ukraine, Galina from Vasilkov, is coming as is Dr. Ira, whom many of you have met. A Ukrainian cellist who is on the faculty at University of North Texas has volunteered to play a house concert for us. You are all invited!
I am in Seattle working for UW Medicine Development.
Right now I am at my old home in St. Louis, MO. But next month I'll be starting a new job in Japan. I'll be teaching English at a private school near Mount Fuji.
Currently I'm in Bremen, Germany at Jacobs University following up on an Educational Development project I launched with my work site. We try to find educational opportunities for students who wish to study abroad at the graduate level and help them achieve that goal. So far, we have been successful in Korea, Sweden and Germany. We now have two Ukrainian students studying in Korea, one student in Stockholm, Sweden and two in Germany . In addition, three more students are applying to be admitted to Jacobs University in Bremen for the Fall 08 semester.
My wife, Lena, and I are living in Columbia SC Irmo area and hope to purchase a house in the fall). She is an accountant for Quill corp. (office supply corp) and is driving 44 miles a day to and from work during rush hour. I am the Citizen Corps Coordinator for the South Carolina Emergency Management Division. Underneath USA Freedom Corps you will find Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Citizen Corps. I focus my energy on overseeing DHS grant guidelines, conducting trainings, etc. The job mimics what I was doing in UA so I am fortunate. One of my main objectives is growing the CERT program within Citizen Corps in SC. CERT is Community Emergency Response Team. Go to www.citizencorps.gov if interested.
Maybe next edition we will have more posts to share. Submit your “Where are You Now” posts via e-mail to any of the officers
