Odessa
City Tour
Half-day. Duration: 3 hours.
Discover Odessa’s architectural treasures on your
introductory motor coach excursion.
From
the pier, you will proceed to the city center where
you will enter the five-domed Uspensky (Assumption)
Cathedral. Built between 1855 and 1869, the grand
structure is recognized as Odessa’s main cathedral
and features a magnificent Russian and
Byzantine-style facade.
Your
journey continues past the main railway station to
Kulikovo Field, where the monument to Lenin stands.
Shevchenko
Park, where you will pause for photos, is named for
the famed Ukrainian poet and patriot. It affords
pleasant views of the Black Sea and features a
beach. Beneath the obelisk, and eternal flame
poignantly honors the Unknown Sailor.
Count
Pototsky’s former palace is now the Fine Arts
Gallery. The exhibit includes a prized collection of
Russian and Ukrainian paintings dating back to the
15-th century.
Enjoy
a pleasant stroll along Primorsky Boulevard, the
city’s most popular promenade Many of Odessa’s
finest buildings and monuments line the boulevard.
Among the pretty structures are the Palace of Count
Vorontsov and the Palace of Weddings.
You
will also see the exterior of the monumental Opera
House. Completed in 1887, the baroque-style building
resembles the Vienna Opera house and Dresden Court
Theater, and was designed by the same architects.
Continue
your walk past the impressive Potemkin Staircase,
which was completed in 1841. You will then see
Pushkin Monument. The celebrated poet spent a
13-month exile in Odessa.
Reboard
you motor coach for the return to the pier.
