just above the southwestern tip of the Crimea
Peninsula, on the shores of a natural harbor, is
Sebastopol, a treasure-house of historic
monuments.
You will certainly admire a
circular Panorama "The Defense of Sebastopol in
the Crimean War," painted by Rubo or the
Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul (1843), whose
classical facade resembles the Theseion of Athens.
Any exploration of the city
will not be complete without visiting the Malakhov
Hill with it's restored fortifications and the
Eternal Flame in honor of Russian and Soviet naval
heroes.
